What is monkey spike?
Monkey spikes look superficially like bird spikes but are a different product entirely. A rhesus macaque is a heavy, strong, intelligent animal that will grip, pull and test a barrier — so the pins are far heavier gauge, the base is structural, and the anchoring goes into the wall rather than relying on adhesive.
Delhi NCR has a genuine and growing macaque presence, particularly around older colonies, temple areas and green belts. Troops follow fixed routes across rooftops, boundary walls and pipe runs. Break the route and the troop reroutes away from your property.
Deterrence, not confrontation
The objective is to make a specific path uncomfortable and awkward, not to trap or injure. Monkeys are protected wildlife in India and are also perfectly capable of retaliating against a barrier that hurts them. Spikes work because they remove the easy grip on a wall top, and a troop that finds a route inconvenient simply uses a different one.
Route mapping is most of the work. Monkeys arrive from a predictable direction: a neighbouring terrace, an overhanging branch, a rainwater downpipe, a cable run. Spiking the entire boundary while leaving the downpipe untreated achieves nothing. We walk the property and identify the actual entry points before quoting.

Monkey spikes are quoted per running foot and cost meaningfully more than bird spikes because both the material gauge and the anchoring are heavier. Pipe collars are priced per unit. We would rather quote a shorter, correctly-chosen run than a long decorative one — coverage of the actual route is what determines whether it works.

Neither, when correctly specified. The pins are blunt and splayed — they deny grip rather than cause injury. Rhesus macaques are protected under Indian wildlife law, which is exactly why a non-injurious physical deterrent is the appropriate approach and why we will not fit anything sharpened or electrified.
Heavier pin gauge, a structural base, and mechanical anchoring into the wall instead of adhesive. A bird spike is designed to stop a 300-gram pigeon settling; a monkey spike has to remain fixed when a 7-kilogram animal grabs and pulls it.
Realistically, the troop will use whichever route is easiest. Deterrents redirect rather than remove — that is how they work. Where a whole society or colony treats its perimeter together, the troop tends to reroute away from the area altogether, which is why we suggest coordinating with an RWA where possible.
Yes, and it is usually essential. A vertical downpipe is a ladder. Spiking a boundary wall while leaving a smooth pipe untreated simply changes which route the troop uses. Pipe collars address that.
Usually yes, though the fixing method changes. On surfaces where drilling is unacceptable we will say so honestly at survey and discuss alternatives, rather than fitting something that will not hold.
